Gaining momentum

Joffrey Reynolds was so focused on the task at hand, he didn't realize what kind of masterpiece he was creating until it was almost finished.

Busy churning out big yardage along the ground, the Calgary Stampeders running back wasn't thinking about his numbers.

"It doesn't matter how many yards I rush for," Reynolds said after slashing the Toronto Argonauts for 189 yards.

"I just want to keep us moving in the right direction."

Reynolds did just that with a healthy dose of north-south running the Argos were unable to contain.

Late in the game, receiver Wane McGarity, who hauled in one of Khari Jones' three TD passes, pointed to the stats on the south scoreboard.

Even then, Reynolds wasn't sure what he had accomplished.

"Not really, not until the fourth quarter when Wane said something to me," Reynolds said.

"We had about 160 yards rushing up on the board but I didn't know how many of them I had because (Randy Bowles) had a couple of carries and Khari (Jones) had to scramble once.

"But I knew we were having success on the ground."

The kind of success he had two years ago at the University of Houston, where he ripped apart East Carolina for 300 yards in a single game.

Saturday's game felt similar to the 5-ft. 10-in., 221-pounder.

"It did. Especially toward the end of the game.

"We wore them down and that's what a running offence wants to do, put the hammer on them in the fourth quarter."

Reynolds has dramatically improved the Stamps run game since his arrival in late September.

The club was averaging an embarrassing 44 yards per game over the first 13 games of the season.

In Reynolds' three appearances, the Stamps have scampered for an average of 145 yards.

The 24-year-old has gained 345 yards, including Saturday's performance, which was the sixth-best in team history.

"I've definitely been on the other side where you get the ball and get hit in the teeth every time. I know how that feels.

"So it's always nice when the offensive line gives you the opportunity to do what you do best."
