It's the best sign the B.C. Lions could have received.

Casey Printers, who left Saturday's game with a leg injury, took reps at practice Tuesday and wasn't walking around with a noticeable limp.

The quarterback strained a quadriceps following a tackle by Saskatchewan's Brent Hawkins late in the first half with the Roughriders leading 13-10 and did not return.

"Quad is fine," said Printers. "It takes a little time to get it back strong and to get it back fleet of foot, but I feel pretty good. I had a couple days off and had an opportunity to rest."

When asked if he expects to play this Friday against the Montreal Alouettes at Empire Field, the 6-foot-2, 215-lbs pivot said, "We'll see. It just takes a little time."

Coach Wally Buono, however, is leaning towards Printers starting in the rematch of last year's Eastern Conference final.

"Right now there's no reason not to," said Buono. "He worked good today and obviously he has to make sure that he's fit to go. Today's the first day and I don't know how much discomfort he was in. But the good thing there, he was able to make his throws, get his reads, and he'll be ready for Friday."

Missing at practice Tuesday included linebacker Anton McKenzie, who says he's still day-to-day with an ankle injury, and centre Dean Valli, who left halfway through practice after being hit in the back of the head with a ball. Soloman Elimimian replaced McKenzie, while Angus Reid took over the centre position.

Defensive end Keron William (groin) was back with the team and although he's not sure about his status for Friday's game, he remains optimistic that he'll be ready.
