Just two days after signing Casey Printers to a new contract, the B.C. Lions have released quarterback Buck Pierce.

"(Pierce) has been a consummate professional during his time with our organization and in addition to thanking him for his efforts over the past five seasons we also wish him the very best in the future," said Lions GM Wally Buono in a press release.

Adds the head coach on Twitter: "Tough decision for our club today. Buck is an excellent young man and we appreciate his contributions. He was nothing short of a warrior."

Since joining the Lions in 2005 as a free agent, Pierce has a record of 21-12-1 in 34 starts and is seventh on the club's all-time passing list with 8,734 yards.

Last season, he played in 12 games, throwing for 2,272 yards and 10 touchdowns.

His best season came in 2008 when he passed for 3,018 yards and 19 TDS, leading the Leos to the CFL Western Final.
