The future of B.C. Place Stadium is as clear as its air-supported fabric roof.

The "refreshed service plan" for B.C. Pavilion Corporation, released with Tuesday's updated provincial budget, contemplates completion of the $365 million project in the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

It also said booking inquiries are being accepted to 2020.

But finance minister and treasury board chairman Colin Hansen said in a news conference that the post-Olympic application of a retractable roof is on hold.

"We have not made any decisions with regard to how that project will proceed," he said.

Structural upgrades are underway during the pre-Olympic renovation to prepare for the retractable roof.

But the service plan said switching to a retractable system is "both unconventional and complex from a design/engineering perspective. The province is currently assessing project budget risks and possible mitigation strategies."

During CKNW's Bill Good Show on Monday, Premier Gordon Campbell said "some of the costs are higher than anyone expected."
