Wally's boys are staying in Whalley.

The B.C. Lions extended their lease with the City of Surrey until 2014 with a two-year option. The field and building at 10605-135th Street have been the Lions' lair since 1990. The front office moved out of B.C. Place Stadium last spring and joined football operations.

Four years ago, Lions' owner David Braley unsuccessfully proposed redeveloping the property to include a new Lions' training facility and community centre. The 135th Street strip near the Whalley Little League ballpark is riddled with vacant lots and is a haven for prostitution and drug dealing.

Surrey is building the $10.5 million Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre, which includes the VANOC Games Preparation Centre, north of the Lions' field.
