B.C. Lions’ defensive coordinator Dave Ritchie is retiring, reports CKNW radio.

Ritchie spent 47 years as a football coach, including the last three with the Lions. The 2001 coach of the year with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers led the Lions to their 1994 Grey Cup championship.

Special teams and linebackers coach Mike Benevides is expected to take over in January.

The Lions are also expected to announce Roy Shivers will replace player personnel director Bob O’Billovich, who was hired as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ general manager. Jacques Chapdelaine is expected to return as offensive coordinator after he spent last season with the Edmonton Eskimos.
