HEAD-TO-HEAD

The Stamps are winless against the Lions this season, but did manage a 45-45 sawoff Aug. 17 at McMahon. The Lions won 32-27 July 28 in Calgary and 42-9 Sept. 29 at B.C. Place. The Stamps are 2-8 in their last 10 against the Lions and haven't won in Vancouver since 2002.

KEY STAT

7 -- Number of starters sitting out this one for the visitors. Quarterback Henry Burris, running back Joffrey Reynolds and receiver Nik Lewis top the list of names taking a week off before facing the Saskatchewan Roughriders Nov. 11 in the West semifinal. Ben Sankey will start at quarterback with Barrick Nealy seeing some action as well.

KEY MATCHUP

Stamps LT Dave Costa vs. Lions DE Brent Johnson -- Costa was added to the roster this week in place of Garrick Jones (shoulder) and will have his hands full in his first game with last year's defensive player of the year.

3 KEYS TO VICTORY

1. Stay healthy -- The players that are sitting will heal up, of course, but the other Stamps starters who will see action have staying out of the trainer's room their No.-1 goal.

2. New runners -- With star running back Joffrey Reynolds getting a week off, backup Ken Simonton will get activated for the first time and see the majority of the work against the Lions. Simonton has patiently bided his time to show what he can do. Canadian running back Jon Cornish -- who went to the University of Kansas -- should also get some carries and would like to make a good impression.

3. Defensive improvement -- The Stamps are near the bottom in most defensive categories and will want to keep building on the four-three system brought in four games ago by defensive co-ordinator Tim Burke. Whichever running back gets the ball for the Lions, the Stamps will focus on shutting down the running attack, which will be key in cold-weather Regina during the playoffs against the Roughriders.
