The B.C. Lions announced the hiring of Jamie Barresi as their new wide-receiver coach yesterday.

Coach Wally Buono, who prefers to hire from within, said his choice was easy because of the relationships Barresi built as a running-back coach last season.

"I think the key word is trust," the four-time Grey Cup-winning coach said. Players have to trust you because you're such a big part of their livelihood and a big part of their success."

Barresi had a brief stint with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before joining the Lions last year as a volunteer.

When asked about working without pay, Barresi said he made the move to stay afloat.

"The volunteer part of it was really kind of a nice thing because I had been in the frying pan in Hamilton," he said.

The Lions must still resolve the vacant offensive co-ordinator position.
