B.C. Lions' defensive coordinator Dave Ritchie isn't going to Saskatchewan.

Roughriders' general manager Eric Tillman hired Kent Austin as new head coach yesterday. Ritchie was one of four candidates to replace the fired Danny Barrett.

Austin quarterbacked the Roughriders to their 1989 Grey Cup win. He was a Lions' quarterback under general manager Tillman and head coach when B.C. won 1994's Grey Cup.

He was the Toronto Argonauts' offensive coordinator until his August firing.

Meanwhile, the 2006 Grey Cup champions extended defensive back Ryan Phillips and linebacker Jamall Johnson's contracts yesterday. University of B.C. running back Chris Ciezki also inked a deal with B.C. He rushed for 2,423 yards on 317 carries and scored 28 touchdowns in three UBC Thunderbirds' seasons.
