About 100 fans decked out in black and orange - and even one shirtless man with "Lions" painted on his chest - braved the pouring rain to greet the returning 2006 Grey Cup champions at the airport yesterday.

Walter Adams and his wife Marilyn, president and vice-president of the B.C. Lions fan club, were among them.

Marilyn believed coming out to see the boys bring the Cup home was natural.

"We've been supporting the B.C. Lions all year through good and bad," said Marilyn. "We would have been here whether they won or lost."

Added her husband Walter, "They deserve it," he said. "They're such a great bunch of individuals. That's the thing that's really neat, all these guys are nice people."

The fans waited an hour-and- a-half after the team's scheduled arrival time to congratulate them. Many hugged Lions president Bob Ackles, who thanked them all for coming out.

"That's what we've been playing for since training camp, since day one," said Lions' defensive back Dante Marsh of winning the Cup. "I don't see any reason why we can't be in Toronto around the same time next year."
