Simon versus Hervey

Lion Geroy Simon could pass the 1,000-yard mark for the fourth time in his career tonight if he catches 94 yards against the Eskimos at BC Place. He's capable of doing that on a single play.

The defending Grey Cup champion Eskimos are winless in three 2006 road games and will need a big performance from Ed Hervey, who will have to contend with Barron Miles and the Lions' powerful defensive secondary.

This is the last Leos/Esks meeting of the regular season and both teams are entering a bye week. Expect late-season intensity for this mid-season tilt.

ESKIMOS WR ED HERVEY ON LIONS' SB GEROY SIMON

"Geroy has the ability to take a four or five yard pass and in two steps he's at top speed, he's going the distance. He's one of the top athletes in the league."

"He can play inside, slot, he can play outside. When he makes a big play, you look at the defence and say why aren't they able to stop him? Obviously it's because he has exceptional skills."

"Even when everyone in the building knows he's going to get the ball and the quarterback is going to get it to him, he finds a way to get open and make plays. That's what a great receiver does."

"In this league you've gotta be able to get up after plays. When you're the marked man on your team, you have to show that consistency week in and week out."

SLOTBACK GEROY SIMON ON ESKIMOS' WR ED HERVEY

"He's definitely one of the fastest guys out there. He's a former track star, he's from California, USC, a fast guy. He's burnt a lot of guys in his day."

"He's a good player, one of the top guys in the league for the last number of years."

"I'm not going to [say] too much, because our guys can shut him down if you want to be truthful."

"Ed's a great player, he's had some injuries but I think he's pretty much recovered from them."

CKNW AM 980 SPORTS DIRECTOR RICK DHALIWAL

Simon: "Not the fastest guy but very explosive when out in the open."

Hervey: "A former track star who leaves many DBs in the dust."

"Both have a sweet pair of hands - but because of Hervey's height advantage, he out-jumps many defensive backs."

Simon: "Runs very good routes despite constantly facing double coverage."

Hervey: "Inside 20 yards of the end zone - no one better at getting the touchdown."

Simon: "He's never afraid to take a big hit to get the catch and the yards."

Hervey: "Has had his fair share of injuries but has a reputation to play through injuries as well."
