"O" and "Moe" are gone from the Lions' den.

The B.C. Lions cut troubled kicker Duncan O'Mahony and veteran offensive lineman Moe Elewonibi yesterday.

O'Mahony missed 16 field goals in 2005. Head coach and general manager Wally Buono failed to trade O'Mahony after acquiring kicker Paul McCallum from the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Sandro Sciortino in the Ottawa Renegades' dispersal draft.

Elewonibi, 40, spent six seasons with three National Football League teams before a nine-year Canadian Football League career in B.C. and Winnipeg.

Oddly, both Nigerian-born Elewonibi and Irish-born O'Mahony were soccer goalkeepers before becoming football pros.

Meanwhile, Lions signed journeyman NFL offensive lineman Reese Hicks.
