Zach Collaros needs work to fully entrench himself as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ No. 1 quarterback.

That much is clear, and not unexpected, following his one quarter of work in the Ticats’ pre-season opener against the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday at McMaster University.

Under centre for the first time with Hamilton after signing a three-year contract via free agency in January, Collaros was able to produce one touchdown in 15 minutes in the Ticats’ 28-23 victory.

His team down 7-0, Collaros was able to take advantage after defensive end Eric Norwood sacked Alouettes quarterback Alex Brink and recovered the fumble at the Montreal 22-yard line.

Collaros’ pass on first down was incomplete to Luke Tasker in the end zone, but Montreal cornerback Michael Carter was flagged for pass interference.
