Just how do you replace a 17-year veteran of professional football like Kerry Joseph, anyway?

The Edmonton Eskimos didn’t seem to have much trouble, announcing the signing of West Virginia Mountaineers product Pat White on Thursday.

White, 28, fills the space left behind by the 40-year-old Joseph, who was released by the club on Jan. 30, one day after announcing his retirement.

In doing so, White brings the number of throwing arms in Edmonton’s stable back up to five, with the six-foot, 190-pound native of Alabama.

But just as important is the addition of his legs, which put up impressive numbers in the NCAA.

Before being drafted in the second round by the NFL’s Miami Dolphins in 2009 and going on to spend the 2013 preseason with the Washington Redskins, White passed for 6,049 yards and 56 touchdowns over his four-year college career, while adding 4,480 rushing yards on 684 carries for 47 more trips to the end zone.
