Letís all give Brandon Collier a break, will ya?
Turns out laughter was the best medicine for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive lineman.
The CFL rookie has taken a lot of heat for laughing while on the bench behind beleaguered head coach Tim Burke late in Friday nightís 44-3 pounding by the Calgary Stampeders.
Collier, who was in street clothes after getting injured, clarified what happened using his Twitter account.
He was simply caught in bad timing ó or so it would seem.
ďI want to apologize to the fans of Winnipeg if you took it as disrespect from the laughing on the sideline!Ē Collier wrote over two messages.
ďAs one of my teammates told me a joke to up bring my spirits after my injury. Of course, I thought the joke was funny, and I am human, so I had a laugh.Ē
The Bombers have become a comedy of errors in recent weeks, bumbling and stumbling through three straight losses since Burke took over as head coach.
I guess the players should be hanging their heads, dragging their feet and moping due to their situation.
Maybe Burke should also try to be dour, as lifting his teamís spirits with a humorous comment or two would be way too inappropriate in a time like this.
Going to work every day should be like attending a funeral when you are 2-9. Football isnít fun when you are losing, and adding more negativity to the atmosphere can only help.
The Bombers will pull out of this spiral only by being the most tense team in the history of the CFL.
Maybe sarcasm is the tonic for the Bombers these days.
