Three-time world champ Patrick Chan posted the best score in the men's short program Thursday at the ISU World Team Trophy event in Tokyo.

Chan's finished with a score of 86.67 points despite falling on a quad toe jump, taking top spot ahead of Daisuke Takahashi of Japan and Konstantin Menshov of Russia. Canada is fourth overall after the first day of competition.

"Considering the long trip and end of the season it was a good day,"Chan said. "I think all the men felt a little shaky. It was still a good day for me, I was able to do triple Lutz-triple toe at the end of the program. I was really tired and didn't have enough speed into the quad or into the Axel, I think that was the reason I was a little rough."

Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje of Waterloo, Ont., were second in the ice dance short program while Kaetlyn Osmond of Marystown, NL, was seventh in the women's short program.
