Figure skating world champion Patrick Chan was named the Canadian Sport Awards male athlete of the year Tuesday.

It is the sixth major 2011 honour for Chan, including QMI Agency's male athlete of the year award. The 21-year-old from Toronto was unbeaten on the year, winning gold at all five events he entered, to edge out downhill skier Erik Guay and kayaker Adam Van Koeverden.

Also recognized as CSA winners were speed skater Christine Nesbitt (female athlete of the year), cross-country skier Alex Harvey (junior athlete of the year), Jeff Stoughton's curling foursome (team of the year) and Harvey and Devon Kershaw (partners of the year).
