Five years ago at the nationals in London, Ont., Craig Buntin won the pairs title with then-partner Valerie Marcoux.
But Meagan Duhamel stole the headlines with old teammate Ryan Arnold when they became the first couple to land side-by-size triple Lutzes in competition on the John Labatt Centre ice.
"She got more publicity that week than we did, and we won," Buntin said of Duhamel, who is now his skating partner.
Elizabeth Manley, who won a silver medal at the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, believes Joannie Rochette can put a Canadian woman on the podium once again in Vancouver.
"No one expected me to beat Katarina Witt (in the long program in Calgary), but I did," Manley said.
"It comes down to who skates the best on that day, and Joannie is more than capable of having her own Manley Moment."
Rochette is vying today for her sixth straight Canadian title, just one behind the record of seven in a row held by Constance Wilson-Samuel (1929-35).
