Chipeur shows he's no flash in the pan

It seems like figure skaters will do just about anything to sell their sport. Including jumping out of their pants.

Poor Vaughn Chipeur, who provided one of the more how-do-you-do moments of this week's Battle of the Blades.

The Lloydminster, Sask. native and Edmonton resident began his qualifying program in the men's competition, but disaster struck with one minute remaining in his performance.

At the start, he noticed that the elastic keeping his pants around his waist and above the decency line came undone.

He decided to continue, figuring he could deliver a revealing program without revealing too much. He didn't quite make it.

PANTS FELL DOWN

While leaping during a jump in the later stages of the program, he felt the band give way, and the britches coming down.

While the audience gasped and laughed at once, Chipeur requested and received a time out to make quick adjustments so that his not-so-routine could continue.

"Thankfully, the qualifying isn't shown on television," he later said with a smile. "I found it all quite amusing. After all, we're here for the fans, right?"

Maybe he should have skated to a tune from The Rolling Stones: Jumpin' Jack Flash.

It was one of this week's more candid moments.
