Given his reserved personality, Rory MacDonald’s words this week about the welterweight bout may be as close as fight fans will ever get to seeing the B.C. native puff his chest out and declare himself the greatest.
Coming off two straight wins and a No. 2 ranking in his division, MacDonald knows he’s inching ever-closer to a title shot and is beginning to make the necessary noise about fighting for the belt.
It’s something many would argue he should’ve been doing months ago, before the UFC publicly promised the winner of July’s Matt Brown-Robbie Lawler fight.
“I’m not going to argue the UFC’s decision on who they want fighting next for the belt,” MacDonald told MMAFighting.com this week. “But I really believe that I am the best. When I get that shot, I’m going to make a statement. I’m going to be holding that belt for a long time.”
