Ross Pearson wasn’t going to rely on the judges again.

Not after he was robbed of the win in his fight earlier this summer against Diego Sanchez.

On Saturday night at UFC Fight Night: Bangor, Pearson showed off some impressive power with a second-round knockout of Gray Maynard and, in the process, likely established himself as a top-10 fighter in the lightweight division.

After a first round that saw Maynard land a couple takedowns but struggle to exert any control, Pearson wasted no time punishing his more seasoned opponent in the second.

With the fighters circling, Pearson pounced and landed a short straight right-hand that stunned Maynard, who’d been hoping to use the bout against the Englishman as a catalyst towards a run at one last title shot.

Instead, it’ll be Pearson who many fight fans will be expecting to see get a shot at one of his division’s bigger names.
