Apparently, Thiago Tavares is a communist.

Yes, you read that right.

A report from MMAFighting on Saturday revealed that the Brazilian featherweight will be running for political office in his native country for the Communist Party of Brazil.

Tavares, who beat Robbie Peralta on Saturday night’s Bangor, Maine card, came after press time, is hoping to be elected to the Legislative Assembly of the State of Santa Clara in Brazil’s Oct. 5 elections.

“I will be fighting in the UFC on Aug. 16, and I will be fighting for votes in Santa Catarina on Oct. 5 as a candidate for a seat at the Legislative Assembly,” Tavares told the website.

“It was not easy. Meeting, campaign and training.”
