With three fights in the books so far this year, Robbie “Ruthless” Lawler is a busy man, and he was extremely busy inside the octagon Saturday night.

In a five-round slugfest, Lawler defeated Matt Brown by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night from the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif.

“Ruthless” was the first to credit Brown, who took a ton of punishment, finishing the fight with his face covered in blood and a suspected right-hand injury.

Lawler briefly spoke with Brown just after the decision was handed down.

“I told him there were two champions inside the ring,” Lawler said. “It was a hell of fight. He went toe-to-toe with me and not many will do that.”

Now, it will be Lawler versus Johny Hendricks II.

The last time they met was for the welterweight belt and Hendricks took the fight by unanimous decision.

“I'm very excited (to face Hendricks),” Lawler said. “He's nursing some injuries and I'm (going to be) waiting for him, which is nice."
