The much anticipated UFC 178 event that was scheduled for the Air Canada Centre on Sept. 27 has officially been moved from Toronto to Las Vegas.

The light heavyweight title fight between Alexander Gustafsson and Jon (Bones) Jones was scheduled to be at the top of the fight card that night, but since that bout has exploded into the stratosphere in terms of interest, it’s being moved to the fight capital of the world.

“That is as close to a superfight as you can find,” said UFC Canada director of operations Tom Wright. “Those kind of fights happen once every five years. You just don’t know when certain events, and certain fighters are going to be ready and all of a sudden you’ve got a massive fight like this.”

A planned Decemeber date in Montreal is also in doubt.
