There’s still a long wait ahead for MMA fans clamouring to see Anderson Silva’s return to the octagon.
The middleweight champion took another step in his comeback this week, though, officially getting clearance to spar.
Silva made the announcement Friday morning on Twitter, confirming that Dr. Marcio Tannure, the medical director for the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission, had given him the go-ahead.
It’s a major step in Silva’s recovery from the gruesome broken left leg he suffered in his loss to Chris Weidman back at UFC 168, but Tannure cautioned that fight fans shouldn’t get too far ahead of themselves.
“He was already cleared by doctors in the United States, but he likes to hear my opinion because I was with him in every step of his recovery,” Tannure told MMAFighting.com. “There’s no exact recovery and we’re happy. It’s going as we expected.”
