Roy Nelson came exactly as advertised.

All of the pre-fight hype for Nelson's bout with Minotauro Nogueira had focused on the Las Vegas brawler's ability to drop opponents with one big punch and that's precisely what Nelson did Friday at UFC Fight Night 39 in Abu Dhabi.

While Nogueira (34-9-1) was active with his jab in the early going, Nelson (21-9-0) quickly took control when he sent Nogueira to the mat with a vicious right hand. While the Brazilian was able to survive Nelson's follow-up and get back to his feet, he didn't last much longer.

At the 3:37 mark of the first round, Nelson connected again with a brutal overhand right that knocked Nogueira out cold before he even hit the ground.

"It was a little shorter than I thought it was going to be," the 37-year-old Nelson said. "Every time I fight I try to make a statement and give the fans what they wanted to see. My plan was to do a couple more takedowns, actually just do a takedown, but it didn't last that long."
