Here’s a fun little question you can bust out to stump other MMA fans: at which UFC event did Georges (Rush) St. Pierre first step into the octagon?

Those who have followed the welterweight champion’s career closely will no doubt answer that he won a unanimous decision over Karo Parisyan in his promotional debut at UFC 46 in early 2004. Though they’ll have correctly identified his first UFC fight, they’re ultimately wrong.

During a media scrum this week, St. Pierre reminisced how he and future UFC middleweight title challenger David Loiseau were merely a pair of MMA fans who travelled to Las Vegas in late 2002 to attend UFC 40, which saw Tito Ortiz secure a TKO victory over Ken Shamrock in the headliner.

The night before the card, however, St. Pierre and Loiseau managed to sneak their way into the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Moments later, they found themselves standing directly in front of the octagon.
