Tim Kennedy knocked Rafael (Sapo) Natal out cold in the main event of UFC Fight Night 31 Wednesday in Fort Campbell, Ky.

Natal got off to a good start, tagging the U.S. Army staff sergeant with outside low kicks and lunging inside the pocket with punches. Kennedy remained patient, if somewhat flat-footed, while attempting to find his opening.

Near the end of the first round, the Strikeforce import cracked Natal with a well-timed lunging left hook. Kennedy then unloaded with ground-and-pound, forcing referee Herb Dean to jump in and save the Brazilian.

“I’m 100% overwhelmed,” Kennedy said. “Moments before I threw that left hook, I heard (my coaches yell), ‘Tim, throw it!’ Instinctively, I listened to my coaches and just did what they wanted.”
