Daniel Cormier still intends to lobby for an immediate light-heavyweight title shot when he debuts in the division early next year.

The Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix winner is set to lock horns with Roy (Big Country) Nelson in the co-main event of UFC 166 in Houston Oct. 19. Regardless of the outcome, Cormier has his eyes set on dropping to 205 pounds.

However, UFC president Dana White recently threw a wrench in Cormier’s title aspirations when he announced that light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones will face Glover Teixeira in March. Alexander Gustafsson is also expected to compete around that time of year and a victory will net the Swedish striker a second title opportunity.
