Sean Pierson laughs when someone suggests that the life of a UFC fighter must be glamorous and lucrative.

The UFC is, after all, a billion-dollar operation and the top UFC fighters are becoming as well-known as athletes in the big four professional sports in North America. In his case, Pierson has fought for the UFC six times, winning his last three, and is one of the more popular mixed martial arts fighters in Ontario.

But glamorous and lucrative ... well, let’s just say that while Pierson has achieved a considerable level of success, the financial rewards have hardly been impressive. Pretty well the exact opposite actually.

Not that he’s complaining. Pierson wants to keep fighting under the UFC banner, so he’s not about to bite the hand that feeds him, even if the meals are surprisingly sparse. But he’s honest. And when he’s asked to describe his financial situation, he tells it like it is.
