Matt (Meathead) Mitrione won’t be surprised if Brendan (The Hybrid) Schaub attempts to turn their upcoming bout into a grappling affair.

Following their time on The Ultimate Fighter 10, which saw both fighters compete under coach Rashad Evans, Mitrione and Schaub began racking up impressive knockout victories. For Schaub, violent finishes against Mirko Filipovic and Chris Tuchscherer highlighted the Colorado native’s improved striking game.

However, after consecutive KO losses to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Ben Rothwell, Schaub opted to switch fight camps, joining Reign Training Center in California. His first outing with the new gym saw him utilize a wrestling-heavy game plan to win a unanimous decision over slugger Lavar Johnson at UFC 157 in February.

The way Mitrione sees it, Schaub now realizes he can no longer afford to take risks against power punchers.
