Alexander (The Mauler) Gustafsson may owe a little thanks to a simple photograph.

The No. 2 ranked light-heavyweight in the UFC, Gustafsson had lobbied for a shot at 205-pound champ Jon (Bones) Jones after picking up a unanimous-decision victory over Mauricio Rua in December.

Instead of receiving an immediate crack at Jones, the Swedish standout was promised a title opportunity should he get past Gegard Mousasi in April. As fate would have it, Gustafsson was forced out of the bout due to a cut. Mousasi stayed on, winning a unanimous decision over Ilir Latifi.

With no opponent on the immediate horizon, Gustafsson headed to Moscow to watch Alexander Emelianenko battle Bob Sapp. It was here that he came face-to-face with Jones, who he had been exchanging barbs with over Twitter. The two snapped a picture together, which Gustafsson then posted on his Twitter account (tinyurl.com/jones-gust).
