Roland Delorme was an owner/operator of a pizza joint three years ago. Saturday he'll fight in a UFC event near his hometown

Less than three years ago, Roland Delorme was owner and operator of a pizza restaurant in the tiny Manitoba town of Niverville, just south of Winnipeg.

In his spare time the longtime martial artist would fight on local MMA cards, taking on anyone who was willing to step into the cage with him.

On Saturday, the 29-year-old will fight on the UFC 161 card at MTS Centre, just a 20-minute drive from his home in the southern part of the city. Three years ago there wasn’t even a bantamweight division in the UFC, and now he’s in the big time.

“It feels like I finally came full circle, where three years ago I was fighting at the Convention Centre for CFC in front of maybe 2,000 people — maybe,” Delorme said Wednesday after an open workout at Portage Place mall. “Now I get to fight in front of 15,000 people in my hometown with all my friends and family there. It’s one of those things that is a dream come true.
