In many ways, the UFC’s newly minted women’s bantamweight division can be viewed as a wide-open landscape.

There is no doubt a certain pecking order carried over from fights that occurred in other promotions, but female competitors on the UFC roster are still tasked with introducing themselves to a brand new audience.

Since the UFC is both a sport and a business, fighters who turn heads with impressive performances will likely reap greater rewards right off the bat. And with only 13 athletes under contract for the division, the path to a title shot could only be a few short steps away.

For Alexis (Ally-Gator) Davis, the stakes only serve to sweeten the pot.

“It’s got to be (based on) my performance in this fight,” Davis said in a phone interview. “It kind of adds that little bit of pressure, but I think we’re all great fighters, regardless. Even if it wasn’t on such a huge stage ... we’d be fighting just as hard."
