Renan Barao is out of UFC 161, so a new main event has been scheduled for Manitoba mixed martial arts fans.

The UFC confirmed on Tuesday that Barao, the interim bantamweight champ from Brazil, is unable to compete at MTS Centre next month due to an injury, which is believed to be a right foot problem.

Barao was supposed to defend his title against American Eddie Wineland in the main event of the first UFC show in Manitoba.

So the new main event will pit Rashad Evans against Dan Henderson in a light heavyweight tilt. Evans and Henderson were originally scheduled to be on the undercard, and they have more name recognition among MMA fans anyway.

Henderson will likely be the crowd favourite given his connection to Winnipeg, as he travelled to the Manitoba capital to watch at least one mixed martial arts event over the years. He trained in Temecula, Calif., with Winnipeg’s Krzysztof Soszynski, so Henderson came to Winnipeg to sign autographs and mingle with fights fans in November 2007.
