Around the world, all eyes will be on Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez as they decide the UFC lightweight championship.
When the UFC on Fox 7 main card gets underway, though, Alberta’s eyes will be on Lethbridge fighter Jordan Mein’s second-career fight with the world’s top MMA promotion.
The 23-year-old Mein (27-8) and Ohio fighter Matt Brown (16-11) will kick-start the main card at the HP Pavilion in San Jose with their welterweight bout.
Mein has a clear strategy going in.
“I think fight fire with fire,” Mein said. “That’s usually what I do. If he comes forward, I want to come forward, too. That’s what makes for good fights, and that’s what people pay to see. Nobody wants to see (fighters) disengaging, they want to see people fight.”
He’s quite familiar with Brown, who has won all but two of his fights by knockout or submission.
