Felix Pablo Elochukwu may have been suffered from over-exhaustion in the three-round amateur MMA match which preceded his death, says the owner of the Hamilton gym where the fighter trained.

Rick Joslin, of Joslin's MMA, said Wednesday that the fight in Michigan was an "equal match" comprised mainly of ground fighting and grappling during two rounds. He believed the heavyweight contender might have suffered a stroke or seizure by overexerting himself.

"He wasn't even hit that much," said Joslin, adding as far as he knows, the protocols surrounding the Michigan match were legit. "I think it was just pure exhaustion because if it's a 265-pound man and you make him run up and down the stairs, you can see what you've got."

The 35-year-old aspiring UFC fighter died Saturday after three rounds in an unsanctioned match in Port Huron, Mich.
