Cote's move down to welterweight made easier thanks to professional nutritionalist
By NEIL SPRINGER, Special to the QMI AGENCY

Patrick Cote will have his first welterweight fight at UFC 158 against Strikeforce veteran Bobby Voelker next Saturday. (QMI AGENCY files)

It was only a matter of time before Patrick (The Predator) Cote tested the waters at welterweight.

Though the Quebec native competed at middleweight for more than seven years — even reaching No. 1 contender status in 2008 — he felt undersized in the division. Cote admitted he was somewhat naive about nutrition and dieting. When it came time to fight, he would just dump 15 pounds of water weight before stepping on the scale.

In order to ensure the cut to 170 pounds goes smoothly, Cote said he enlisted the help of a professional nutritionist.
