Rory 'Ares' MacDonald. QMI Agency File

MONTREAL - Canadian fighter Rory "Ares" MacDonald has pulled out of his UFC 158 fight against American Carlos Condit because of a neck injury.

The fight was on the undercard to the Georges St-Pierre-Nick Diaz event at the Bell Centre on March 16.

MacDonald, who is from Quesnel, B.C., but fights out of Montreal, was hurt during a workout.

The 23-year-old was in so much pain that he couldn't continue training and was unable to run, QMI Agency has learned.

MacDonald was told he should rest the injury for at least three weeks.

The 6-foot, 170-pounder has a 14-1 UFC record and the boxing-jiu-jitsu specialist is seen as a possible successor to St-Pierre.

Condit, who lost to St-Pierre last November, is the only fighter to defeat MacDonald in 15 career fights.

The injury to MacDonald has forced UFC to shuffle the UFC 158 16 card.

American Johny Hendricks will replace the Canadian against Condit.

Hendricks was supposed to fight Jake Elleberger but a new opponent will be chosen at a later date.
