As far Georges (Rush) St. Pierre is concerned, Johny (Bigg Rigg) Hendricks hasn’t earned a title shot yet.

Hendricks, a two-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion, is currently riding a five-fight win streak, which includes vicious knockouts of Jon Fitch and Martin Kampmann, as well as a close split-decision victory over Josh Koscheck.

Despite being labelled by many as the rightful No. 1 contender, Hendricks was pushed to the wayside by St. Pierre, who opted to face former Strikeforce champ Nick Diaz in the main event of UFC 158 in Montreal March 16. As a result, Hendricks now meets Jake Ellenberger that same night.

St. Pierre said he chose Diaz because he felt Hendricks lost to Koscheck last May.

“I believe Josh Koscheck should have won that fight,” St. Pierre said at a news conference Wednesday. “So I didn’t want to fight a guy that lost to a guy that I beat. For me, Nick Diaz is the No. 1 contender. He’s proven himself many times before. There is a story
