Calgary's Ring gets call for UFC 149
By Jose Rodriguez, QMI Agency
Calgary’s Nick Ring will fight before a hometown crowd at UFC 149 in July.
The UFC has confirmed to the Sun that the 12-1 middleweight will face Utah’s Court McGee in a rematch of their The Ultimate Fighter 11 scrap that Ring won by a controversial unanimous decision.
McGee was allowed back into the competition when another fighter dropped out and would have faced Ring again.
The Calgarian, however, was forced out of the show by injury and McGee went on to win TUF 11 and the six-figure UFC contract.
Ring is 2-1 in the UFC coming off his first career defeat, losing to Tim Boetsch by decision at UFC 135.
The fight is the first comfirmed pairing for UFC 149.
The UFC announced Jose Aldo will defend his UFC featherweight belt at the event, but a challenger has yet to be named.
A fight between Mitch Ganyon and Bryan Caraway is also expected to be on the undercard though the UFC has yet to officially announce that fight.
UFC 149 will take place at the Saddledome.
UFC officials say tickets will go on sale in the second week of May.
