Nick Diaz's demands for a shot at the UFC welterweight title have likely gone up in smoke.

Diaz, who lost a controversial decision to Carlos Condit at UFC 143 in Las Vegas last weekend, tested positive for marijuana after the fight, the Nevada State Athletic Commission said Thursday. The NSAC won't decided on a punishment until after a hearing, which will likely take place in April.

But clearly the UFC isn't happy about Diaz testing positive for marijuana, the second time it's happened in his MMA career. He also tested positive for the drug in 2007.

"I am beyond disappointed that he tested positive for marijuana," UFC president Dana White said in a statement. "It is now in the hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission."

Condit won the interim welterweight title -- champ Georges St. Pierre is recovering from an injury and won't fight until later this year -- and agreed earlier this week to give Diaz a shot at the belt. Diaz said after Saturday's fight that he was retiring from the sport.
