Top UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem has been charged with misdemeanor battery, and faces up to six months in jail if convicted, according to a report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The ex-Strikeforce heavyweight champion could also have to pay a fine of up to $1,000.

Overeem, who is 6-foot-5 and weighs more than 260 pounds, allegedly shoved a woman at about 3 a.m. local time Jan. 2, causing her to fall backward, according to Las Vegas police. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 21.

“Alistair was not arrested, but was summoned to court,” defense attorney David Chesnoff told the Review-Journal. “There are two sides to this story and we intend on vigorously defending this. Alistair maintains his innocence.”

A few days before the alleged incident, Overeem defeated former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in a title eliminator at UFC 141. Lesnar retired from mixed martial arts competition immediately after that first-round TKO loss.
