London, Ont.’s Sam Stout will fight for the first time since the death of his trainer and brother-in-law Shawn Tompkins at UFC 142. Of his fight, Stout says: “Shawn gave me all the tools, I’ve just got to go out there and execute. I’ll have Mark Hominick in my corner on fight night and we’ll go out there and try to make Shawn proud.”

DOS SANTOS PREDICTS WIN FOR ALDO

The biggest star at UFC 142 won’t even be entering the Octagon. Heavyweight champ Junior Dos Santos has been everywhere during fight week and even offered a prediction for the main event between featherweight champ Jose Aldo and challenger Chad Mendes. “I think Aldo is one of the best and I expect him to get the knockout.”

JUNIOR ON THE MEND

Dos Santos says he will soon be healthy and ready to take on Alistair Overeem. Speaking to MMAJunkie Radio, the UFC heavyweight champ says he will require about three weeks to fully heal from knee surgery and then a two-and-a-half month training camp to prepare to defend his belt. Dos Santos underwent surgery last month to repair a torn meniscus.

FLORIAN MULLS RETIREMENT

The Boston Herald is reporting UFC fighter Kenny Florian is considering retirement. The former The Ultimate Fighter 1 contender says he has been unable to shake the discomfort of a herniated disc in his lower back.
