UFC on free TV? Priceless
By JOSE RODRIGUEZ, QMI Agency
Perspective folks. Perspective!
The UFCís most dyed-in-the-wool diehards are often its harshest critics. Present company included.
Some of that helps to keep the fight club humble. It stops it from straying too far from its roots.
But at times, as is the case with the criticism over the UFC on FOX event last weekend, itís just plain grating.
Everything from the format to the music is being micro-analyzed in the twitterverse and elsewhere.
Iíll be the first to admit I would have loved to have seen the entire Ben Henderson-Clay Guida fight on the live bill too.
I had to watch it on Facebook instead.
But at the end of the day, I donít care what music is played, whoís commentating or how long the scraps last.
Itís about the fights.
The fact it was the shortest main event in UFC history ó it took 64 seconds for Junior dos Santos to knock out Cain Velasquez ó doesnít matter to me.
Iím sure the UFC and FOX would have liked it to last a little longer but the fact it didnít only serves to punctuate the unpredictability of the sport. One of its greatest lures.
Last Saturday night, I got to watch a UFC heavyweight title fight without having to fork over sixty bucks.
And from my perspective, thereís nothing wrong with that.
