Jon Jones will defend his light-heavyweight championship at UFC 140 in Toronto, but it won’t be against Rashad Evans.

The Ultimate Fighter season two winner was originally slated to challenge Jones for the title following his destruction of Tito Ortiz in August, but a lingering thumb injury will keep him on the sidelines until some time next year.

With Evans out, Jones will now meet former champion Lyoto Machida at the Air Canada Centre Dec. 10.

UFC president Dana White made the announcement via his Twitter account.

“Alright Toronto!!! Dec 10th UFC 140 tix (sic) go on sale next weekend and ur (sic) main event is Bones Jones vs Machida!!!” White wrote.

This is the second time a planned fight between Evans and Jones has fallen apart. The two were set to meet at UFC 133 Aug. 6, but the champion bowed out due to a hand injury.

Evans stayed on to dismantle Ortiz, while Jones went on to submit Quinton (Rampage) Jackson at UFC 135 last month.
