Anderson (The Spider) Silva defends his UFC middleweight title against Demian Maia. Also, Frankie Edgar challenges B.J. Penn for the lightweight championship.

Kendall Grove vs. Mark Munoz

Round one

Grove immediataly works his jab. Munoz charges and eats a knee. He shoots again and takes Grove down. Munoz connects with a stiff punch, but Grove stands up. Grove catches Munoz with an uppercut as he shoots. Munoz looks hurt, but he keeps hold of his leg. Grove unloads with hammerfists. Munoz is in trouble, but he survives and keeps control of Grove's leg.

Munoz presses Grove against the cage and works for the takedown. Grove tries to free himself, but Munoz is not letting go. The ref restarts them. Munoz shoots, but Grove goes for a choke. Munoz escapes and connects with a huge right hand. He lands another, but Grove grabs a guillotine choke. Munoz pops his head out. Munoz goes for the leg again. Grove grabs a guillotine again, but Munoz escapes as the round ends.

Good round for Grove. He came close to finishing him a couple times.

Round two

Grove tags him with an uppercut, but Munoz comes back with a big overhand right. Grove catches him with a nasty knee as Munoz shoots. Grove takes his back and works for an armbar. Munoz escapes and starts unloading with punches. Grove kicks him off, Munoz is back on him. Munoz throws punches to the body. Grove kicks him off again, but Munoz explodes with more punches.

Munoz stands up and folds Grove against the cage. Munoz unloads with nasty punches! Grove is hurt and the ref stops it! Amazing comeback for Munoz.

Winner: Mark Munoz via second-round TKO.

Terry Etim vs. Rafael Dos Anjos

Round one

They touch gloves and Etim takes octagon control. Etim tries a head kick, but Dos Anjos charges with a flurry of punches to back him off. Etim goes for another head kick. Dos Anjos shoots for a takedown, but Etim jumps into a guillotine choke. The arm is trapped and Dos Anjos is staying calm. Etim now has a body triangle and continues holding the choke.

Dos Anjos loosens Etim's grip and pops his head out. Dos Anjos passes to side-control. He delivers a knee to the body, but the ref warns him not to hit the back. He does it again and the ref stands them up. That was a little strange. The knees looked to be hitting the side of the body, not the back.

Etim spins out of a leg lock attempt and is now in Dos Anjos' guard. Etim lands a couple hammerfists. Dos Anjos rolls for a kneebar as the round ends.

Round two

Dos Anjos lands an inside leg kick. Etim tries a head kick, but Dos Anjos counters with a right-hook. Etim goes for a spinning back kick and follows with an outside leg kick. Etim connects with a stiff knee, but Dos Anjos takes him down and is in side-control. Dos Anjos is working for full-mount, but Etim moves him into half- guard. Dos Anjos is back into side-control. Dos Anjos works in punches and a short-elbow. He lands another stiff elbow.

Dos Anjos slides his knee across Etim's stomach and in full-mount now. Etim brings him immediately back to half-guard. Dos Anjos with another elbow. Dos Anjos switches to north-south position. Dos Anjos grabs the arm and works for the kimura. He switches to the armbar and Etim taps!

Winner: Rafael Dos Anjos via second-round submission (armbar)

Matt Hughes vs. Renzo Gracie

Round one

They touch gloves and Gracie takes octagon control. Hughes tries a body kick, but misses. He throws another, but connects this time. Gracie lands a left hook. He tags Hughes with a straight-left. Hughes presses him on the fence, but Gracie steps out. Hughes presses him against the cage again. Gracie lands a knee to the body and spins out.

Hughes with a slapping leg kick. Gracie charges with punches, but Hughes avoids the flurry. They clinch and Gracie delivers a knee before breaking. Hughes with a leg kick. Hughes tries a Superman punch, but misses. Hughes connects wtih a straight-right. Gracie with a teep to the stomach as the round ends.

Round two

Gracie lands a double jab. Hughes with a nasty leg kick. Gracie connects with a left-hook. They clinch, exchange knees and break. Hughes grabs a body lock and tries a throw, but Gracie gets right back up. Hughes with another leg kick.

Gracie with a body punch, but Hughes lands another leg kick. Gracie with a jab. And another. Gracie lands a leg kick of his own. Hughes connects with a left-hook, right-straight combo. Hughes delivers a leg kick. Gracie with a stiff jab. Hughes with a left-straight and follows it with a leg kick. Gracie connects with a right.

Round three

Hughes with yet another leg kick. Gracie just isn't checking them. Another leg kick. Gracie with a straight-left. They clinch and Hughes delivers a body punch. He follows with a straight-right. Hughes with another leg kick. Hughers clinches and connects with an uppercut. Hughes lands a nasty uppercut and Gracie is looking worn out. Hughes with another stiff shot.

Hughes tags him with a straight-left. Hughes trips him with a leg kick and then gives him a hand to let him back up. Weird. He trips him again. Hughes keeps going back to the leg kicks and Gracie can barely stand. Hughes knocks him down and then steps away again.

Hughes backs him against the fence and unloads with punches. Gracie drops and the ref calls it.

Winner: Matt Hughes via third-round TKO.

B.J. Penn vs. Frankie Edgar

Round one

Edgar starts circling on the outside. Edgar misses a jab. Edgar with a nice leg kick. He tags Penn with a jab. They exchange jabs. Penn with a stiff jab now. And another. Edgar tries a teep. Edgar connects with a left hook. Edgar with a leg kick.

Edgar is moving around a lot and looks fast. Edgar tries a takedown, but eats a couple uppercuts. Edgar charges, but Penn counters with a left and right hooks. Penn is starting to time Edgar's attacks. he catches him with a left hook. Edgar comes back with a combo and delivers a teep.

Penn counters a leg kick with a hook. The round ends.

Round two

They trade jabs. Edgar tries a kick, but Penn counters with a stiif jab. Edgar misses another takedown attempt. Penn tags Edgar with a couple more jabs.

Penn catches him coming in with a left-hook. Edgar tries another takedown, but can't get it. Edgar lands a jab, but Penn counters with a flurry. Penn blocks a body kick. Edgar catches him with a sraight-right. Penn checks a leg kick. Edgar lands a leg kick this time. Edgar throws Penn down, but Penn's right back up to his feet. Edgar lands a right hook as the round ends.

Round three

Edgar catches him with a straight-right. Penn counters with a flurry as Edgar comes in. They trade jabs. Edgar delivers an inside leg kick. Edgar with a body punch. Penn lands a counter left-hook. Edgar with a left-hook of his own. Edgar lands another. Edgar connects with a jab. He tries another takedown, but can't get it. Penn counters with a left hook.

Edgar misses a takedown attempt, but follows with a body kick. Edgar ducks a punch and tries a takedown, but Penn lands a knee to the body.

Round four

Penn has a bruise under each eye. Edgar connects with a left-hook. He tries a takedown, but can't get it. Edgar delivers a kick to the body. Penn stuffs another takedown attempt. Edgar clips him with a head kick, but eats a jab. They trade more jabs. Edgar sneaks in with a straight-right. He tags Penn on the chin with a jab. Penn now with a jab of his own.

Edgar with two punches to the body. Penn clips him with a left-hook to counter. Penn with a nice counter right. Edgar tries a flying knee against the cage and backs out. They exchange a flurry. Penn counters with left-hook. Edgar ends the round with a left-hook.

Round five

This is a tough fight to score. I'd say it's two rounds a piece.

Edgar takes Penn down again. Penn gets back up right away. Edgar with a body punch. Penn blocks a head kick. Penn with a nice leg kick. Penn counters a takedown attempt with a right-hook.

Edgar with a huge right-hook. Penn felt that one. Edgar misses a takedown attempt. And another. Edgar with a left-hook. Edgar with a nice leg kick. Edgar with a stiff jab. Penn blocks a body kick. Penn is looking slow now. Penn with a massive left-hook. He connects with a big knee as the round ends.

Winner: Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision (50-45, 48-47, 49-46)

Anderson Silva vs. Demian Maia

Round one

Maia takes octagon control. Silva is letting Maia come to him. Silva chops with the heel at Maia's knee. Silva spins Maia around with a leg kick. Silva is starting to open up. He lands a spinning back-kick. Now Silva is squatting to the ground for some reason. Odd. He tags Maia with a jab and delivers some nasty leg kicks.

Silva misses a head kick, but lands a leg kick. He explodes with a punch, but slips. Maia tries to pull him to the ground, but Silva walks away. Silva drops him with a huge flying knee, but refuses to go to the ground. They stand up and Silva charges, but Maia goes to the mat.

Round two

Maia tries a looping right-hook, but Silva avoids it. Silva is cornering him now and trips him with a leg kick. Silva tries a head kick, but misses. He kicks Maia's calf. Silva stuffs a takedown attempt. And again. One more time for good measure. Silva is standing with his hands on his hips. He's goading Maia now. Silva is screaming at Maia to hit him.

Silva with a nasty body kick. Maia tries another takedown, but Silva avoids it. Silva with another leg kick.

Round three

This has literally been two rounds of Silva clowning Maia.

Maia lands a jab now. Maia's bleeding from his nose now. Silva delivers a couple leg kicks. Silva is just waiting for Maia to come to him now. Silva throws a kick, but slips. Maia pounces, but Silva's back up and he explodes with strikes. Maia backs off and tries a takedown, but can't get it.

Maia with a left-straight now. Silva tries a thigh punch. Maia with another straight-left. Maia misses another takedown attempt. The round ends and this is looking like the Thales Leites fight all over again. Silva doesn't seem to want to take teh fight to Maia now.

Round four

Silva chops with his heel at Maia's knee. Maia catches him with a straight-left. Silva is moving around and not really throwing anything. Silva with a teep. The crowd is now chanting for Maia as nothing is really happening. Silva delivers a slapping leg kick. He chops at the knee again. Maia misses a leg kick. Maia looks frustrated as Silva keeps circling the octagon.

Now they're yelling at each other over the lack of action. The audience keeps chanting for Maia as the round ends.

Round five

Finally -- only one more round of this crap.

Maia looks like he's been run over by a car. His eye is swollen shut. Silva lands a straight-left. Maia tries a looping left-hook. Silva goes for a teep. Now Maia explodes and connects with a right-hook! He delivers more strikes and is coming straight for Silva! Maia slips, but delivers punches from his knees to Silva! Silva backs off and the crowd is chanting for Maia again. Silva with a nice spinning back-kick. Maia grabs a hold of his leg, but Silva pops out.

Silva just keeps circling the octagon and Maia looks frustrated. Now referee Dan Miragliotta is warning Silva to stop running away. Maia tries a looping hook as the round ends.

Winner: Anderson Silva via unanimous decision. For some reason they didn't give the judges' scores. Silva apologies for the poor performance.
