Former light-heavyweight champions meet at UFC 106, as the returning Tito Ortiz faces Forrest Griffin.

The two fought back at UFC 59, with Ortiz earning a close split-decision victory.

Also, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, twin brother of UFC heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, makes his octagon debut against Luiz Cane.

BLOW BY BLOW

(New York Bad Ass) Phil Baroni vs. Amir Sadollah

Round one

Baroni takes octagon control and explodes with punches. Sadollah looks hurt, but he tries to Thai clinch and answer with knees. Sadollah holds the plum as they exchange more knees and punches.

They separate, but go straight back to the same exchange. Sadollah presses Baroni on the fence and the action slows. Baroni switches, but Sadollah reverses. Baroni is landing some uppercuts as Sadollah delivers knees to the body.

Baroni gets the takedown and puts Sadollah against the cage. Sadollah is trying to switch his hips for an armbar, but can't grab it. Baroni stands up and lands a left-hook. Sadollah delivers a teep to keep some distance.

Sadollah lands a hard straight-right and goes for a takedown on the cage. Sadollah grabs the Thai clinch and is trying to land a knee to the head. Baroni drops down for a double-leg, but he's wasting a lot of energy. Sadollah lands a knee as the round ends and Baroni is bleeding.

Round two

Sadollah lands a leg kick and tags him with a huge knee. Baroni is looking very tired. Sadollah delivers a stiff leg kick and they clinch on the cage. Baroni answers with a stiff overhand right. Sadollah misses a Superman punch and Baroni presses him against the fence.

Sadollah delivers two front kicks, before targeting the legs. Sadollah presses Baroni against the cage and catches him with a nice elbow over the top. Sadollah goes back to kneeing the body. They separate; Sadollah comes forward with punches before going back to the clinch.

Baroni is looking completely gassed now. He tags Sadollah with a straight-right, but there isn't much snap left. Sadollah grabs overhooks as they clinch. He delivers another stiff overhand elbow.

They clinch as the round ends. Baroni needs something big now.

Round three

Sadollah comes out with a series of stiff leg kicks. He presses the exhausted Baroni against the fence, but separates quickly. Sadollah lands another teep and then follows with an elbow. Baroni is bleeding from the forehead.

Sadollah goes back to the clunch and lands knees to the body. He backs out and picks some more leg kicks. Sadollah nails him with a Superman punch and delivers a couple knees to Baroni's body. Sadollah with another leg kick. He tries a head kick, but Baroni blocks.

Sadollah tries a flying knee. Baroni is still swinging with everything he has, but the shots are slow and wild. Sadollah unloads with elbows against the cage as the round ends.

Winner: Amir Sadollah by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Luiz (Banha) Cane vs. Antonio Rogerio (Minotoro) Nogueira

Round one

Cane takes octagon control and delivers a leg kick. Nogueira answers with one of his own. Nogueira tags him with a quick jab and is finding a home for the straight-left. Nogueira lands a huge overhand-left and now he's hunting Cane down. Nogueira delivers another and Cane is really hurt! Nogueira drops Cane with a huge left-hook and follows it up with strikes on the ground until the ref stops it!

Very impressive UFC debut for Nogueira.

Winner: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira by first-round TKO (1:56)

Paulo Thiago vs. Jacob (Christmas) Volkmann

Round one

Thiago takes octagon control and he seems to have his right hand cocked. Thiago tries a head kick, but Volkmann avoids it. Volkmann clinches, but Thiago gets the takedown and has side-control.

Volkmann pulls him into half-guard and he wall-walks back up. Thiago presses him against the cage. Volkmann is cut on the bridge of his nose. Thiago takes him down and goes to full-mount. Volkmann once again brings him back to half-guard. Thiago is landing some short elbows, but Volkmann puts him in full-guard.

Thiago lets him up. Thiago with a leg kick. Volkmann tries to time a takedown, but Thiago stuffs it. Volkmann presses him against the fence and knees his legs. They break and Volkmann lands an elbow to the head.

Thiago unloads with a huge left-hook, straight-right combo that drops Volkmann, but the round ends.

Round two

Thiago catches a body kick and kicks Volkmann's leg out! Nice. Volkmann gets a takedown and secures side-control. Thiago sits up and Volkmann rides his back. Thiago stands up and they trade knees on the fence.

Thiago tries a jumping knee, but Volkmann tags him with a left-hook. Volkmann gets the takedown and tries for full-mount. Thiago escapes and stands up. He jumps into Volkmann's guard with a big right hand for good measure.

Thiago stands up and delivers another huge diving right. The round ends.

Round three

Thiago takes octagon control again. Thiago drops him, but Volkmann is okay. Thiago jumps on him and tries to finish, but Volkmann defends well. They stand up and separate.

Volkmann tries a single-leg takedown, but Thiago avoids it. Volkmann finally gets him down and takes side-control. Thiago rolls onto his stomach and Volkmann rides his back. Thiago goes to his back and Volkmann grabs a crucifix! He's trying to land elbows, but Thiago gets out and rolls back to his stomach.

Thiago slips out and stands up. He jumps into side-control. Volkmann is going for a D'Arce choke, but Thiago escapes. Thiago unloads with punches from the top as the round ends.

Winner: Paul Thiago by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

Josh (Kos) Koscheck vs. Anthony (Rumble) Johnson

Round one

They exchange leg kicks to start. Koscheck fakes a takedown and lands a nice left-hook. Johnson tries a head kick, but Koscheck blocks. Koscheck with an inside leg kick and follows it with a stiff overhand right.

Nice jab from Johnson. He follows with an inside leg kick. Koscheck stumbles from a straight-right. He tries a takedown, but Johnson lands on top. Johnson illegally knees Koscheck in the head when he's down. The ref stops the action and Koscheck looks really hurt. He's holding his eye.

A point has been deducted from Johnson and Koscheck is trying to recover. Replay makes it hard to tell how his eye got hurt. The knee didn't hit the eye, but Koscheck may have been rammed into it.

They restart. Johnson tries a head kick, but it's blocked. Koscheck shoots for a single-leg takedown, but Johnson defends on the fence. He grabs a body lock and throws Johnson down. Koscheck takes his back and is trying to get the hooks in. Johnson turns it around and time runs out.

Round two

Johnson takes octagon control and is working the jab. Now Koscheck accidentally pokes Johnson in the eye. Koscheck lands a high kick. Koscheck explodes with a flurry of punches, but pokes him in the eye again. Ouch. They restart.

Johnson tries another head kick. Johnson lands a nice left-hook. Koscheck gets the takedown and is in half-guard. Koscheck works in some short elbows and body punches. Koscheck delivers a huge overhand right.

Koscheck is really wearing him down. Koscheck could grab an arm-triangle choke, but he lets it go. Koscheck takes his back and grabs a rear-naked choke! Johnson taps!

Winner: Josh Koscheck by second-round submission (4:47)

(Huntington Beach Bad Boy) Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin

Round one

Griffin tags him with a left-hook. Ortiz tries a head kick. Ortiz shoots and takes him down. Ortiz is working those nasty elbows. He delivers some punches to the body. Griffin sweeps with a kimura, but Ortiz switches into another shot. Griffin stands against the cage. Ortiz delivers a knee to the body, but Griffin reverses and answers with one of his own.

They separate and Griffin lands another leg kick. Griffin tags him with a stiff left-right combo. Ortiz tries another takedown, but Griffin avoids it. Griffin with an inside leg kick and clinches. The round ends.

Round two

Ortiz attempts a big overhand right to start. Griffin tries a leg kick, but Ortiz catches it and takes him down. Ortiz is landing some tight elbows from the guard. Griffin stands back up.

Griffin delivers a teep to Ortiz's face, which sends his mouthpiece flying. Ortiz lands a left-hook, but Griffin delivers a body kick. Ortiz shoots and takes him down again. Griffin tries to sweep, but Ortiz stays on top.

Ortiz starts landing more elbows. He tries a can-opener neck crank, but Griffin pops his head out. Griffin is bleeding bad now. Ortiz keeps grinding away with elbows, but Griffin gets the sweep. Griffin unloads with punches as the round ends.

Round three

Griffin tries a head kick, but can't land it. Griffin is trying a lot of combos, but Ortiz is blocking the shots. Griffin is connecting now with straight-rights and leg kicks.

Ortiz tries to shoot, but Griffin stuffs it. Griffin with another leg kick. Ortiz needs to mount some offense. Griffin with a nice jab. A high kicks misses, but Griffin tags Ortiz with a right-hook as he charges forward. Griffin with another straight-right. He delivers another stiff leg kick. Ortiz with a body kick. They exchange punches as the round ends.

Winner: Forrest Griffin by split-decision (28-29, 30-27, 29-28)

In the post-fight interview, Ortiz complains about a bulging disc and cracked skull. Well, I guess part of the old Tito is back.
