Lyoto Machida challenges Rashad Evans for the UFC light-heavyweight title. Also, Matt Hughes and Matt Serra finally throw down.

BLOW BY BLOW

Hey everybody and welcome to the live coverage of UFC 98. Let's get to the fights.

Sean (Muscle Shark) Sherk vs. Frank (The Answer) Edgar

Round one

Edgar tries a head kick, but it's blocked. Sherk lands an uppercut as Edgar is coming forward. They clinch and Sherk presses him against the fence. Edgar lands a leg kick and misses a double-leg takedown. Sherk tries an overhand right, but eats a left-right combo. Edgar lands another.

Edgar goes for a single-leg, but can't get him down. They clinch, exchange knees and separate. Edgar catches a leg kick and takes Sherk down. Edgar can't do anything with it and they stand up.

Edgar tags him with an uppercut, but eats a right-hook. Good round for Edgar.

Round two

Sherk comes forward with a couple jabs, but Edgar steps out. He lands a hard left soon after. Edgar nails a hard body kick.

Sherk keeps coming forward, but Edgar is landing more. Edgar delivers a solid leg kick and follows with a two-punch combo. Edgar is doing a good job of being unpredictable with his strikes -- solid head movement and utilizing different angles.

Edgar tags him with a few body punches and follows with a hard overhand right. Edgar's striking is looking really good here.

He catches Sherk with a knee.

Round three

Sherk needs to come alive -- he's yet to try a takedown and seems determined to stick to his failing game plan.

Sherk finally gets a takedown, but Edgar is back up. Sherk is bleeding a bit over the eyebrow. Edgar delivers a couple body shots. He tries a head kick, but it's blocked.

Sherk misses a takedown and eats a hard right-hook. Edgar feeds him a stiff straight-right. Sherk tries a combo, but Edgar returns with a hard overhand right. Edgar's movement, angles and counter-striking are winning him this fight, no question.

Edgar stuffs a takedown and grabs a guillotine choke, but the round ends.

Winner: Frank Edgar by unanimous decision.

Dan Miller vs. Chael Sonnen

Round one

Miller catches him with a hard right and tries a takedown. Miller grabs a guillotine, but Sonnen isn't tapping. He pops his head out, stands up and lands a couple hard rights to Miller on the ground.

Sonnen hits Miller with a hard elbow. Miller tries to kick him off, but Sonnen comes back with a flurry. Miller tries a leg lock, but Sonnen gets his back. He takes side control, but Miller takes him back to half-guard.

Miller takes him to full-guard. Sonnen stands up and rains two hard punches. Sonnen works in more elbows and just keeps grinding away. The round ends.

Round two

Miller needs to work here. Sonnen presses him against the cage and tries a takedown. He gets caught in another guillotine, but pops his head.

Sonnen keeps working his ground-and-pound. Miller hasn't even so much as threatened him with a sweep. Miller tries for an armbar, but Sonnen postures out.

Sonnen keeps working away with elbows and punches. Miller looks like he has little left in the gas tank. Sonnen stands out and tags the downed Miller with a left hook. Another dominant round for Sonnen.

Round three

Miller comes forward throwing wild punches -- some land, but Sonnen takes him down. More of the same follows as Sonnen continues his ground-and-pound and Miller takes it. This is like watching the movie "Groundhog Day," with Miller continually getting killed like Bill Murray.

Sonnen attempts to reach mount, but is brought back to full-guard. Miller tries a triangle choke, but Sonnen avoids it and keeps pounding on him.

Winner: Chael Sonnen by unanimous decision.

Drew (The Massacre) McFedries vs. Xavier (Professor X) Foupa-Pokam

Round one

Foupa-Pokam circles outside, but gets dropped with a huge right! McFedries pounces on him. Foupa-Pokam fends him off and is back up, but McFedries drops him again with a left-hook. The ref stops it!

Winner: Drew McFedries by first round TKO.

Matt Hughes vs. Matt (The Terror) Serra

Round one

Hughes takes a southpaw stance, while Serra seems to be preparing a huge right-hand. Serra drops Hughes, but he comes back for a takedown! They're saying it may have been an accidental head-butt that hurt Hughes.

Hughes presses him against the fence and looks to be recovered. Serra throws him off and delivers an inside leg kick. Hughes tries a body kick and clinches him. He gets the takedown and takes side control. He takes his back and is trying for a rear-naked choke.

Hughes is trying to open him up with punches. Serra spins out and he's back up. The round expires. Good fight.

Round two

Serra tags him with a left and is still looking for a big punch. Hughes presses him against the cage and gets another takedown.

Hughes is caught in his half-guard, but is working in some body shots. Serra tries to regain guard, but can't get it. Not much is happening and Serra looks annoyed.

Hughes continues to work the body. He tags Serra with some shots to the face. The crowd is booing and the ref stands them up. The round ends.

Round three

Hughes charges and locks his arms around his bodies. Hughes gets the takedown, but Serra is trying for an omoplata. Hughes postures up and gets his arm out, though.

Serra tries for another one, but Hughes is out again. Serra tries a triangle choke, but Hughes stands out. Hughes is caught in his half-guard and can't pop his leg out. They stand up again.

Serra drops his hands to taunt Hughes. Serra takes him down and lands some punches. Hughes dives for a leg and the round ends!

Winner: Matt Hughes by decision.

(Sugar) Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida

Round one

Machida takes octagon control and no one is throwing anything. Machida sends Evans stumbling back with a head kick. Not much else is happening.

Machida lands a body kick. Machida drops him with a straight-right! He pounces, but Evans is back up. Machida opens up with more kicks and the round ends. Good round for Machida.

Round two

Machida catches him with a leg kick. Machida leads with a kick and tries a takedown. He can't get it and they separate. Machida charges with a flurry of punches, but Evans returns the favour to back him up.

Evans lands a hard leg kick. Machida tags him with a straight-left and he's down! Machida is all over him! Evans is back up, but Machida unloads with punches and knocks Evans out cold with left-hook!

Winner: Lyoto Machida by second round KO.
