Spider to tangle with Forrest

The UFC has announced its next test for Anderson "Spider" Silva, who is coming off two less-than-impressive middleweight title defences. The Brazilian will move up to the 205-lb. class to fight Forrest Griffin, who is coming off a light-heavyweight title loss to "Sugar" Rashad Evans. The Aug. 8 UFC 101 card will also feature a lightweight title fight between champ B.J. Penn and Kenny Florian.

Thiago gets Mean

Thiago Silva will take on Keith "Dean of Mean" Jardine at UFC 102, according to mmajunkie.com. The main event on the Aug. 29 card is rumoured to be a battle of former heavyweight champs: Randy "The Natural" Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Maia's Great challenge

Undefeated Brazilian submission expert Demian Maia will take on Nate "The Great" Marquardt at UFC 102.

Losses doom Day

Calgarian Jason "Dooms" Day has been cut from the UFC. Following an impressive debut win in Montreal last year against Alan Belcher, Day has lost to Michael Bisping and Kendall Grove. The middleweight continues to train full-time in Calgary.

Canseco's Dream fight

Former major-leaguer Jose Canseco will make his MMA debut against Korean giant Hong Man Choi at Dream 9 May 26 in Yokohama, Japan.

Backlash title changes

There were three major title changes at WWE's Backlash pay-per-view Sunday. Christian won the ECW title by beating Jack Swagger. Edge beat John Cena for the world title. Randy Orton won the WWE title when Legacy beat Triple H, Batista and Shane McMahon. Other results: Chris Jericho beat Ricky Steamboat; Kane beat CM Punk and Jeff Hardy beat Matt Hardy.

Playboy Buddy dies

Playboy Buddy Rose (Paul R. Perschmann) died of natural causes at his Vancouver home Tuesday. He was 56.

Elix' son killed

Former WCW star Elix Skipper's son Lemarcus, 22, died after being shot several times in Columbus, Ohio.
